Service Benefits / Features

We have been designing and installing Data Cable networks in a range of environments from primary schools and small offices to large Hospitals and Universities Since 1996.

Our Cat5e / Cat6 and fibre optic installation teams are highly qualified, skilled and experienced engineers who are all CRB and ECS accredited. In many cases we can install a cable network while day-to-day operations continue, reducing unnecessary disruption to your organisation’s operations. If you require traditional telephone cabling work we are able to advise and undertake that work if required.

Our solutions range from a few additional access points in a small office, through to major project tenders for network and cable installations in business parks, warehouses and office blocks. Our cable installation services are carried out throughout the UK from our base in East Anglia.

Eastern Voice and Data is qualified to certify our networks and provide ongoing support to suit your business requirements. When installed with Excel Patch Panels and Data Outlets, we support our Cat5e / Cat6 and fibre cable installations with a comprehensive warranty.

EATON HALL SPECIALIST ACADEMY

During half term we were asked to complete an emergency installation for Eaton Hall Specialist Academy. Eaton Hall is part of the Right for Success Academy Group for whom we have undertaken projects for Sewell Park Academy, Sprowston Academy, Tuckswood Academy, Martham Academy, Stalham Academy and St Clements Free School.

Eaton Hall is the only Norfolk specialist academy catering for students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school is residential and operates with a 24 hour curriculum.

The school’s cabling infrastructure was in serious need of replacement and due to various security issues the academy felt that they had to act. Eastern Voice & Data had anticipated that the project would be completed during a longer holiday break and had estimated that 3 weeks would be required to fully complete the project. The amount of work required was further complicated by the need to replace the main security gate that had been damaged in a collision with a truck. This involved groundwork to lay an armoured fibre optic cable so that a video access system could be installed. The existing telephone system was no longer fit for purpose and a school wide DECT system was specified allowing staff to be able to call for assistance.

Eastern Voice & Data specified an updated network solution utilising ZyXel Gigabit switches. This was allied to a Panasonic NS700 IP-PBX that provided full cordless coverage over the whole site by virtue of networked Panasonic IP DECT Base stations and KXTCA185 DECT Handsets. SIP trunks provided a managed fibre optic voice connection to complete the telephony set up.

The door entry solution was provided by 2N, consisting of a vandal resistant IP Force video intercom networked to the school reception via a secure fibre optic connection allowing school staff to view visitors and converse with them. The wifi control panel also provided a video memory log of all callers to the site.

The students left for half term on the 18th and 6 engineers immediately began to strip out the existing network and telephone system. Groundworks for the installation of the new security gate and fibre optic connection started on the 22nd. By the 26th the cabling infrastructure had been replaced, a total of 12 DECT base stations newly installed providing full site coverage, new ZyXel network switches had also been installed. By the 29th the new security gate installation was complete and the fibre optic connected.

An installation that effectively completely replaced the entire IT network, telephone system and secure door entry was complete in 8 days from project start to completion.

Audley End Miniature Railway

Protecting visitors, staff and assets with the help of a Wisenet video surveillance system

A Wisenet video surveillance system manufactured by Hanwha Techwin is being used to its full potential by the operators of the Audley End Miniature Railway in order to ensure that the 100,000 plus people who visit the Railway every year are able to safely enjoy all its facilities.

Located close to Audley End House in Saffron Walden, Essex, the Miniature Railway, was built in 1964 by the then Lord Braybrooke as a hobby. It has since become a major tourist attraction with train enthusiasts able to enjoy steam and diesel train rides through the beautiful Audley End Estate Woodland designed by Capability Brown, whilst young visitors can venture through a ‘Fairy and Elf’ walk.

IP Network Solution

Originally installed as a replacement for an old analogue CCTV system following a number of security incidents, the new IP network based Wisenet system is now also being used to keep a close eye on the trains moving around the 2.4 kilometer track and visitor car parking areas. In addition, it is also helping with the management of the queues of people waiting to buy tickets and to ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations.

The video surveillance system, comprising 14 Wisenet cameras and a Network Video Recorder (NVR), has been installed by IT infrastructure specialists, Eastern Voice and Data, who also designed and installed the Miniature Railway’s network and Wi-Fi.

Single Source

“We have previously installed Wisenet cameras for other clients and have been impressed with their robustness and reliability, as well as the quality of the captured images,” said Russell Marriott, Director of Norwich based Eastern Voice and Data. “As a result, we were able to confidently recommend to Audley End Miniature Railway that all cameras should be selected from the Wisenet camera range. We then worked closely with the Hanwha Techwin pre-sales team to select the most appropriate camera model for each location.”

Cameras

Among the 14 cameras installed are 5 QNO-7030R Bullet and 6 QND-7010R Dome cameras. These are all able to capture 4megapixel high definition images of objects regardless of the lighting conditions, with the help of built-in IR illumination.

Part of the Wisenet Q camera series, the cameras also feature defocus, motion and tamper detection, hallway view and lens distortion correction, whilst support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) has negated the need for Eastern Voice and Data to have to provide separate power supplies and cabling to each camera location.

Images captured from all the cameras are recorded and stored on a 16 channel Wisenet XRN-1610S NVR, which is equipped with a PoE switch.

“Our old CCTV was well passed its ‘use-by’ date and lacked the functionality required to help us maintain a safe environment for our visitors and staff, as well as deter would be intruders and vandals,” said Bob Ottaway, General Manager of the Audley End Miniature Railway. “We are now able to closely monitor all activity throughout the site during opening hours, and with the help of the Wisenet Mobile App, we can also be remotely alerted via smartphones and tablets to any suspicious activity when we are closed.”

The Ministry of Defence

A Cable Survey of 80 km of underground armoured telephone cable and condition report of 40 telecom cabinets was undertaken with a very tight time schedule due to MOD operational activities.

Since the original provision of the buried armoured telephone cable network, records had not been kept of moves and changes. A second phase of network expansion further exacerbated the situation. The customer realised something had to be done. Eastern Voice and Data was commisioned to scan the entire network and assess the condition of the cable infrastructure.

A cross connection database spreadsheet will allow future moves and changes to be logged.

The work was completed on time and on budget for the Ministry of Defence.
